Included is a cover of The Smiths' "There is a Light That Never Goes Out." However, the excellent cut is the title track, reminiscent (in sound) to The Smiths' "Queen Is Dead." A collaboration between Reigning Sound's Greg Cartwright and LA's garage band, The Ettes, created The Parting Gifts. Even though, The Ette's Lindsay "Coco" Hames and Jem Cohen contribute a handful of songs, this project, Strychnine Dandelion, is about Cartwright. On this fantastic record, Cartwright, who writes a bulk of the material, comes up with some of his strongest work yet.

What a better way to express love for the upcoming Valentine's than say, "Wake up and make love with me..." Ian Dury & The Blockheads paved a unique road in the U.K. punk/pub rock scene in the late '70s, combining vaudeville, rock and roll and new wave. Unfortunately, the recent 2010 biopic on Ian Dury, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, is a shallow attempt on unveiling punk's eccentric entertainer and his life. Stick with the real music.
