B.W.'s PLAYLIST/ KHSU, 90.5/ SAT., 13 AUG. 2011


Linda Martell was the first African-American female performer to play Nashville's Grand Ole Opry stage, initially in 1969, then subsequently in the early '70s. Here's a great article on her from Oxford American magazine. Possibly she still may be one of the few African-American singers to perform there. Some things change very slowly...like this country. Regardless, it's a beautiful song by a beautiful singer.
